7 ways to stay healthy while working at home

Watch Moda Health’s Wellness Webinar to get tips for maintaining your physical and mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As many of us continue to work from home, prolonged changes to our normal routines can — if we recognize them or not — have an enormous impact on our physical health and mental well-being. To offset the negative effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Moda Health’s Supervisor of Wellness and Operations, Taylor Bruner, says it’s important to focus on your personal care needs.

“We should all put an extra emphasis on self-care during COVID,” she said. “Self-care will look different for everyone, which is why we need to find out what self-care looks like for each of us.”

To learn how to stay healthy during the pandemic, Moda has created a wellness webinar entitled, “Maintaining a Healthy Immune System During COVID-19.” The 20-minute presentation covers topics such as:

In the webinar, Bruner provides tips on how to maintain physical health and mental well-being during COVID, including:

  1. Working out at home or joining a virtual fitness class
  2. Moving 30+ minutes a day to combat the negative effects of sitting
  3. Taking short naps of 10-30 minutes to offset sleep deprivation
  4. Taking a walk to help get a better night’s rest
  5. Finding activities that are enjoyable and rejuvenating to you
  6. Socializing with others online to reduce stress and increase higher levels of happiness
  7. Crafting, journaling or practicing gratitude creates a more positive mindset

Bruner added that we should be flexible and fit some “you time” into your daily routine. This helps ensure you are getting proper exercise and engaging in social activities that are essential to maintaining good physical and mental health.

“Chronic stress weakens our immune system, leaving us more susceptible to inflammation and infection,” she said. “To help manage stress, mindful-based activities can aid our immune cells. That’s why it’s important to take the time for yourself to take care of yourself.”
