Summer 2017

Got 15 minutes? This online tool could help kick start your health

It’s normal to get stuck in a rut with your diet and exercise routine. This summer, break out of the blahs with help from Moda’s updated online health assessment tool, Momentum.

All it takes is 10 to 15 minutes to answer personalized questions about your health, including your eating habits, physical activity, sleep patterns and other routines. The results can guide you to more targeted solutions to help you live well and feel better.

“The main benefit of a health assessment like this is its intuitive design and ability to learn from your answers,” said Mitch Hurley, a Moda Health wellness consultant who uses the Momentum tool with his clients.

Momentum is private, secure and confidential, allowing you to zero in on areas where your behavior could improve and highlight your healthy-living successes.

“It helps you measure your mood, activity and nutrition, plus it asks lifestyle questions about your sun exposure, tobacco or alcohol use and other habits to give you an overall wellness score,” Hurley said.

Personalized results, in easy-to-read reports

Along with the big-picture view, Momentum also breaks your wellness score into its component parts, so you can see where to focus your energy if you decide to make a change.

“It shows you clearly where you need to take action, where you may want to get more information from your doctor and where you’re doing well,” Hurley said.

And for each item that the health assessment measures — your risk for chronic illnesses or cancer, your weight, eating habits, fitness and mental health — Momentum also connects you with easy-to-digest articles for more information about the health issues that affect you the most.

Momentum’s articles aren’t written like scientific journal entries. Instead, they’re designed to be consumed in a few minutes and use simple language to explain how you can make changes that will keep you on the path to improved health and wellness.

Here’s one more benefit to Momentum’s health assessment: When you finish the questionnaire, you can print a summary of your results to bring to your doctor the next time you have a checkup.

“The physician summary really helps when people have ‘white coat syndrome’ and forget what to ask their doctor,” Hurley said. “It’s like they have a health coach with them in the exam room, because it lists out all the information that they can use to go over with their doctor and make a plan together.”
