Summer 2021

Keep up your guard

Oregon’s current COVID-19 safety measures help you and others stop the spread of the virus, even if you’ve been vaccinated.

As more Oregonians get fully vaccinated, the Oregon Health Authority’s (OHA) updated COVID-19 safety measures are a reminder that we still have a little more time to go before things get back to normal.

To help put an end to the spread of COVID-19, we all need to keep up our guard. Continuing to follow COVID-19 safety measures is critical to protecting ourselves and others against the virus.

On May 18, OHA released updated guidance for masking and physical distancing throughout the state. These updates include:

  1. Indoor masking: Fully vaccinated individuals will no longer need to wear a mask indoors in public places where vaccination statuses of individuals are checked (masks will be required in areas where people are not asked about their vaccination status).
  2. Outdoor masking: Masks are no longer required for people who are outdoors, though masking is still encouraged, especially in crowded places for people who are unvaccinated.
  3. Masking policies: Businesses, employers and faith institutions have the right to determine their own masking policies for fully vaccinated individuals. If they decide fully vaccinated individuals no longer have to wear a mask in their establishments, they must have a policy in place to check the vaccination status of all individuals before entering their establishment.

While the new masking and physical distancing guidance is subject to change, the OHA reminds us that these measures won’t last forever. Keeping up your guard a little longer will help stop the spread of COVID-19 so we can all go back to seeing those we care about and doing the things we love.
