Rip City Rally hits the road

The Portland Trail Blazers are more than Portland’s team. They are Oregon’s team. That’s why each September Moda Health and the Trail Blazers team up for the Rip City Rally (previously Rip City Relay).

The annual five-city journey travels across Oregon to let fans experience the thrills and excitement that fill the Moda Center during the NBA season right in their hometowns.

Now in its sixth year, the weeklong rally kicks off Monday, Sept. 10 in Klamath Falls, and then moves to Bend and Prineville before heading to Madras, with its last stop in Hood River on Friday, Sept. 14.

For Moda, the event delivers on our mission to help build healthier communities. Each stop packs in a full day of high-energy events, including school assemblies and basketball clinics at sites picked by the Trail Blazers and the Oregon Education Association.

“The rally goes around the state to get Blazers fans pumped up about the new season,” said Todd Bosma, the Trail Blazers’ director of game operations and events. “But it’s also about educating families and kids about how they can build better communities by living healthy, active lifestyles.”

Each day the rally features a free community fair with fun family games and activities. There are chances to win Trail Blazers gear and meet team ambassadors like Blaze the Trail Cat and the BlazerDancers.

“The Rip City Rally is about engaging people of all ages across Oregon. We do this by visiting several communities and teaching them about the benefits of being active and making healthy lifestyle choices,” said Karis Stoudamire-Phillips, Moda’s manager of corporate social responsibility.
